Tree hut

We have been learning how to use adjectives to describe a mood and atmosphere. Here is a picture of our tree house that my group made and the adjectives to describe the mood.

Can you guess the mood and atmosphere?

Tectonic plates

Last Friday we did an experiment to learn about the tectonic plates and how the movement of the plates help shape NZ. I learned that divergence, convergence and transform are ways that the plates can move, which can create an earthquake or a volcanic eruption.

Here are some photos from my experiment. Can you guess what we used for our magma?

Measuring heads Shaun

This week for math we've been doing measurements and its been super fun doing this stuff.

My favourite thing was the graph because it was the best.

The hard thing was the head measuring because it was hard to get the wool straight but I did it in the end.

Ski Trip

Kia ora

Today we built Mt Ruapehu in the sandpit. We also made the Whangaehu River valley, the plain below the mountain and the railway bridge at Tangiwai. We wanted to learn how the lahar destroyed the bridge in 1953 causing the Tangiwai Disaster. Kora and Ariana poured lots of water into the crater we had made on top of our mountain. It whoosed down the side of the mountain and into the river valley. The bridge collapsed and bits of our train fell into the river. After that, we watched a short video about what do do if you are on Mt Ruapehu when the lahar siren sounds.  Now I know how to keep safe from a lahar if one happens when I am on a mountain.  Here is my Hazard Notice with the most important information.

Piopio Birds

Last term me and my group did 5 questions about the North Island Piopio which were native birds to NZ.
The hard thing about this task was trying to put things into my own words. The easy thing about this task was searching up the answers. What I enjoyed about this task was blogging.

My DNA Monster

Today we learned about the molecule DNA, Deoxyribonucleic Acid, our unique

recipe that makes us look like we do!
We used our knowledge of DNA and recessive and dominant traits to create
our own unique DNA monsters.

Here is my DNA table of traits and a picture of my DNA monster.

What I like best about my monster is the eyes.
